Transcript for Sarah Chittim's Ethics Video

My name is Sarah Chittim, and I'm a graduate student and work in the HR field. My story today is about when I was assistant manager at a restaurant and had caught one of my employees taking money out of the register.I approached them about it and asked why they were doing this and they later told me that they were having some personal issues and were short on money. It was against our policy to do that but this had been a long-term employee I had and felt bad for them. I decided it was best to let them go because I didn't want to set a tone to the other employees that this was okay. So in the long run, it is best to just go by store policy even though I felt ethically challenged because they were a good friend and I had worked with them a long time, but it was best just to separate that and cut them loose.
