Discussion Board: Homeostasis

Overview

In order to understand the body, you need to know its parts (anatomy) and their functions (physiology), and how they all work together to form the human body. Participate in this discussion activity to begin your exploration into the body systems.

Watch the following videos before making your initial post.

The first video explains where things are in the body using directional terms as well as relationships to other parts. The second video briefly explains the body using positive and negative feedback, including the examples of blood glucose levels and contractions during childbirth.

After watching both videos, choose a body system to explore and look at both positive and negative feedback within that body system. Using the information presented in the videos, make an initial post using the following prompts. Your initial post needs to address each discussion point.

Discussion Prompt

• Use basic anatomical language to give an overview of the system you researched, its location in the body, and the major organs involved (physiological language).
• Considering that positive feedback mechanisms are generally not beneficial to the body, give an example when positive feedback is beneficial to the body and/or your chosen system.
• Provide an example from your own experience of your body using negative and positive feedback and how that impacted your approach or choices in the scenario.
