Discussion: I/O Devices and Our Senses

Computers, for all of their technology and capacity, are, at least in the present, designed around humans and their senses for the most part. For example, a keyboard interacts with the user's sense of touch and, for many, eyesight. A video display interacts with the user's eyesight specifically.

Think about the various types of input and output devices in the world that collect, enter, convert, and provide data into processing systems and then display, show, explode, sound, and vibrate in a way that provides information to one or all. For at least two of the categories below, plus one of your choice, identify an input or output (or both) device that is not necessarily associated or designed to work with a PC. If it is an input device, how does it collect its data and if it's an output device, what information does it provide and what is the medium it uses?
