discussion question

discussion question(s) is: Do you feel it is safe/easy to communicate within your own oraganization? How can leaders/managers encourage open and transparent communication within their teams or the organization as a whole in your opinion? What strategies have you seen or implemented successfully?

reply to two discussion post.

1. t my previous workplaces, I never found it easy to communicate. I won't say it was a flaw within the organization, perhaps it was me who felt uneasy and difficult to communicate. Some of the managers I worked with, it was pretty easy to talk to them. Then there were few at both of my workplaces where if I had a problem and tried talking to them, they would respond back in a very rude tone, all of a sudden a defensive mechanism. Obviously that made communication difficult. The best way managers/leaders can make communication easy is by first acknowledging that the problem exists. Plus, the reason they are at the position they are is for a reason. They get there by either experiencing, observing, or learning everything in the way and should be able to assess and analyze the problem, instead of shutting out the person from communicating the problem or issue that he/she/they might be bringing. For, highly chances are they know what is happening.

The best way to encourage open communication is first by building trust, second by having one-to-one talk. Effective communications can keep the work on a good flow. At one of my workplaces there was one-to one talk with managers every two weeks or once a month. It never included problem discussions, it was always about sales goals, credits opened, and sometimes ranking. Even though this strategy was implemented, it was never a success. It never included upcoming events, in store problems that could be affecting the person, and was never about making an employee at ease. It was about credits, sales, and deal with your problems kind of meetings.

2. Communication practices have varied across the companies I've worked for. In my current company it's not efficient at all. This is widely shared opinon among my coworkers. The solution I propose is for our supervisors to engage in verbal communication rather than relying solely on chat. This shift would cultivate a better work environment and facilitate relationship building between supervisors and subordinates. It's a strategy I've witnessed succeed in a previous workplace. The manager was in tune to the team's needs and guided us in improving customer communication, resulting in increased sales success.
