Discussion There is bias against women in multiple industries (Johnson & Snow, 1999; Hicks 2009) particularly in academia (Smith & Wesson, 2012) Efforts have been made to reduce bias while hiring (Goldin & Rouse, 2000) these have little effect once women are hired This study sought to determine the degree of bias among female scientists We hypothesized women will experience lower pay that male scientists Our data suggest women do make less money than men o On average, we found a $10,000 difference This suggests increased efforts to recruit women (Goldin & Rouse, 2000) are only partially effective Also needs to be increased attention to creating a supportive work environment (Johnson, Jacobs, & Roe, 2018)
