A) I would like to discuss an issue going on in China. The Uighur Muslims are a minority group in China that the Chinese government wants to suppress. To do this, they are putting them in detention and concentration camps. According to western reports, at least 1 million Uighurs have been interned since 2017 in more than 85 identified camps within Xijiang. They were detained, interrogated and beaten in hopes of ridding them of their religion. Laws were even passed to prevent them from dressing and appearing the way their religion required them to. Men are no longer allowed to grow long beards, and women cannot wear veils. Many of their mosques have been torn down as well. This goes against their personal and freedom rights. There is a cycle occurring, and although we may not have concentration camps, we have conversion camps. Practices like these are not just.

B) This has been a challenging year in our country, especially with our economy in 2020. A lot of events have happened this election year. The domestic policy issue I would like to write about is the covid-19 pandemic, as regards people losing their jobs, difficulty finding food for their families, and maintaining housing to live safely.

Due to the coronavirus that hit the United States in March of 2020, the job market has plumbed because people can not work. After all, the jobs in restaurants, retail stores, hair salons, and airlines are not open for business on a normal capacity because of fear of catching covid-19. The Brookings Institution, the website writes about not since the Great Depression has the level of unemployment rate being so high. The article named "Covid-19 Job and Income Leading to More Hunger and Financial Hardship," by Mathieu Despard, Michal Grinstein Weiss, Yung Chun, and Stephen talks about people of the ages of 18 to 24 had the highest loss of income. Jobs like hospitality, construction had large layoffs disproportionately affecting black workers.

The effects of the covid-19 have made it difficult for families to find food to eat. The article about covid-19 on the Brookings website talks about how hard it is to afford food for adults and children in their household and how serious the situation is with loss of income. By race, the household of Hispanics is much more likely to be a problem than that of a whites household. The covid pandemic has exposed the problems in our country income levels of poverty.

Maintaining a place for having shelter is another problem since the covid-19 crisis. People are having difficulties maintaining a place because of not having rent money to pay for living expenses. The threat of being homeless puts mental stress on family members. In the article about covid-19 on the Brookings Institution, it writes about Congress passing an emergency housing assistance to help people in crisis, but Congress is not doing its job.

In conclusion, my point of view is this country is not doing enough to help less fortunate people who are in the lower-income class doing all the work for the country as a whole. The Republicans in the office are all about the mighty dollar. The Senators are being paid by the government and won't help the people who need the government the most who are the working class. It's good the United States id finally produced a vaccination to cure the covid-19 virus. Still, until the politician in Washington gives the money to the working people, life in America may become more dangerous than we ever imagine.
