DO NOT COPY OTHER PERSONS ANSWER!!!image text in transcribed

1) Zinc oxide (Zno) is common oxide ceramic used for its chemical, electrical, and medical properties in a variety of applications such in vulcanised rubber, ceramic glazes, toothpastes and skin lotions, sunscreens, cigarette filters, dietary supplements, paint pigments, etc. Using the data given below and any justifications/explanations/derivations as necessary: a) Derive and predict the likely crystal structure of Zno. Compare your result with a reliable published description (state the citation source). Sketch the structure. [10] b) Specify the Bravais lattice of the crystal structure and a possible motif that could be used to build the crystal structure given in part a). With the use of a sketch and with appropriate explanation, show graphically how the motif and Bravais lattice are used to produce the crystal structure. [6] c) Calculate the theoretical density of the Zno. Hint: calculate the volume of unit cell from consideration of your sketch in Part a) and calculate the mass of the unit cell from the numbers of atoms the unit cell "owns". Compare your result with a reliable published description (state the citation source). [6] Data: Element Atomic Mass (g/mol) Zinc (zn) 65.38 Oxygen (0) 16.00 Avagadro's Number: NA = 6.022 x 1023 mol-1 Atomic Radius (pm) 133 74 Ionic Radius (pm) 74 (A12+) 140 (0%)
