Do you agree and why?

Directed Patrol Methods: The directed method of patrolling is the approach traditionally applied within the Hot Spots patrolling methods. This patrol method is done to be able to show a force, that way those that want to be criminals would be less likely due to the presence of the police directly in that area of interest.

Hot-Spot Patrol Methods: This method of patrolling is the approach that most departments use because of the officers they have on hand. Different shifts and schedules have different hot spots during those shifts and that is the locations that should be covered more than the others.

Zero-Tolerance: This method comes to when even the little crimes such as jay walking come into play and being strict on the speeding of those that do 1mph over the speed limit. This can be either good or bad depending on the area.

The ones that would likely be encouraged by the community towards the law enforcement efforts would be both directed and zero-tolerance methods that way they can be covering those hot spot areas a bit more relaxed effort than just focusing on the hot spots alone. Many ways to increase the encouragement of the community supporting the Police efforts is to see them out there doing what is right for the community and not looking like bullies to the community.

Per Capita: This approach is looking at the size of area and the amount per person in he area to determine how many police officers are needed to staff that certain area.

Minimum Staffing: This approach looks at how many officers they can work with to save on time and money for that area of concern. For example, we normally run with four officers in that part of town, we need to drop it down to two officers to see how things work and see how that part of town is with two instead of four. kind of a roll of a dice approach.

Authorized Level: This is approach is done more in the heavier populated areas due to the amount of people in that town or city. Need to make sure that level of police force can also be afforded as well. There is also a maximum level of officer capability to but most towns try not to do that due to cost to proficiency that is needed would not be beneficial.

Workload Based: This approach is looked at what is needed for that day and that is from the past history on that day is the number of officers needed for that workload of that specific day.

In my opinion, the best approach when scheduling officers would be a mix of minimum and per capita approaches. My reasoning comes down to looking at being most effective with the least number of officers and be efficient with the amount of money for that area. I would hope most departments would use the per capita approach and mix it with the minimum staffing because it would be one saving the department money and maybe help the most they can.
