Do younger U.S. males weigh more on average than older males? To investigate this question we will use data from the National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES).
NHANES is sponsored by the U.S. government. Researchers use data from NHANES extensively in studies related to health of the U.S. population. According the NHANES website, "The survey is unique in that it combines interviews and physical examinations. ...The survey examines a nationally representative sample of about 5,000 persons each year." Here is data from 2004 relevant to our research question.
We labeled "young U.S. males" as population 1 and "older U.S. males" as population 2. The null hypothesis is
?1 =?2
List and check the conditions for use of the hypothesis test.
