Dogwood Insurance Inc. was an employer participating in the college work fair. Pooja was graduating in the spring and had met with the Harry, the HR manager. She passed her resume to him and was glad to receive a call from Harry requesting she attend for an interview for a Claims Examiner position. Because she had little real work experience, she had "added" a couple of fictitious summer jobs to her resume. She had asked her friends to be the work references for those fictitious jobs should any employer call and check on her.
Harry, the HR Manager was very busy doing interviews of 7 applicants. The applicants each had 30 minutes with Harry to convince him that they were the best choice. He told them what the job duties were and then asked them why they were the best candidate. As one applicant left through one door, another was shown in through the other door. Harry was running behind but felt he remembered what each candidate said. Pooja was the last interview. She was asked to convince him and so she told him all about her college experience. He heard that Pooja had a 4.0 GPA and was going to be receiving an award for her academics. Harry decided right there that she was the best applicant from all of them he had seen.
Harry hired Pooja after calling the summer work references and hearing so many good things about Pooja from them.
Pooja was excited to start her position. Pooja showed up early to the orientation session and learned all about the company harassment policy and signed her payroll and tax forms. She was shown to her desk after a lunch with her manager and told to start her work as a Claims Examiner. Based upon the job duties she recalled from the interview, she proceeded to look at the files and complete the paperwork in the files. She thought that she was doing well, until 6 months later at her first review with her manager, she was told that she was at the bottom rating, and to not expect any increase. She was lucky to have her job.
