2. (a) A anionic (i.e., negatively charged) hollow-fiber membrane has an inner diameter of 2 mm, and a thickness of 0.1mm. Solute A (a peptide, MWA590g/L ) has a diffusivity DAM= 2.41010m2/s inside the membrane, and diffusivity DAaq=3.21010m2/s in the aqueous solvent on either side of the membrane. Min=30m at the inside surface of the membrane, and Mout=5m outside. The equilibrium partition coefficient K=2.5. Use these values to determine keffin for the membrane. (b) A colleague suggests that another solute, Solute E, in the mixture has much lower permeability through the membrane than solute A. The two solutes have similar molecular weights, but unlike A, Solute E is negatively charged at the pH of the feed solution. Explain why the permeabilities of the two solutes might be different
