Dose of rotenone (mg/l) 11.97 Number of Number of insects insects affected 50 47 9.82 50 45 Problem #1 Toxicity of rotenone to the insect species Macrosiphoniella sanborni is reported in the literature. In one study, the rotenone was applied in a medium of 0.5% saponin containing 5% alcohol. Effect of rotenone on insects at seven different doses from 11.97 mg/l to 1.57 mgl/l were studied. At each dose level, 50 insects were exposed to rotenone. The insects were examined and classified one day after spraying. The obtained data are tabulated here. Using the tabulated data, determine the probit constants and the LCso dose. Probit constants are ki and k2 as given in probit equation, Egn. 2-5 (Textbook 3rd Edition): Y = k, + k, InV, where V is causative variable (dose of rotenone, mg/l). 6.57 50 35 4.99 50 26 50 15 3.65 2.40 50 5 1.57 50 1 =
