Draw an entity relationship diagram: You have recently been given the opportunity to develop a database for a regional cinema company. The company owns several theaters, and each theater has several auditoriums for playing movies. For each theater, the company wishes to keep track of information including its unique name, the city and state it is located in, and the property value. Moreover, the company wants to know the details about the auditoriums within theaters, which are identified using the same ascending numbers at every theater (i.e., every theater has an Auditorium 1, Auditorium 2, etc.).
For every auditorium, it is important to keep track of information including the number of seats, size of the screen, number of speakers, type of sound system, and model of projector. It is also important to note however that there are two distinct types of auditoriumsIMAX and traditionaland each of these has special properties. For IMAX auditoriums, it is necessary to track information regarding screen aspect ratio and screen resolution; for traditional auditoriums, it is necessary to track the type of seating and the number of aisles.
The types of auditoriums also have implications for theater staff. In traditional auditoriums, movies must be manually started by an usher. A particular usher may be responsible for starting movies in no traditional auditoriums or several traditional auditoriums; moreover, each traditional auditorium is assigned to at least one usher or several different ushers. By contrast, all of the cinemas IMAX auditoriums play movies automatically and require no usher intervention. It is important to note that the company also wishes to keep track of the hourly wages of each usher.
In addition to ushers, the database needs to store information regarding managers. The primary duty of managers is to oversee the relationship between ushers and traditional auditoriums. Every manager is responsible for managing one or more usher/traditional auditoriums assignments, and these assignments are in turn managed by at least one manager or several different managers.
Managers also supervise one another. Specifically, a particular manager may be supervised by one or more other managers, and some managers are responsible for supervising several other managers. However, some managers supervise no other managers, and not every manager necessarily has a supervisor. Finally, it is important to keep track of the following employment-related information regarding all managers: hiring date, duration of tenure, and salary.
Notes: 1) you do not need to specialize staff(i.e., treat ushers and managers as separate entities with their own unique primary identifiers); 2) you do not need to consider the relationship between ushers/managers and theaters (e.g., no need to create a relationship like WorksAt); 3) you do not need an entity for the single regional cinema company that owns the theaters; 4) do not use any associative entities or ternary relationships; 5) HINT: a partial identifier can serve as a common identifier for the purpose of specialization; 6) no assumptions should be necessary to complete your ER diagram, but if you do make any, please state them clearly.
