Interior Design Company The Interior Design Company (IDC) works with clients on jobs such as designing or re-designing a living room or kitchen. The purpose of this database is to record information and provide reports about employees, clients and jobs.
IDC employs several designers. A designer works directly with a client to understand their needs, specify all aspects of the design, coordinate schedules with contractors, and track the dates of required inspections and approvals (engineering, plumbing, gas, electric, etc.). A client contacts the IDC to plan a job. If a client has worked with an IDC designer before, they may choose to work with the same designer, although that isnt required. Otherwise, one of the other designers will work with the client. Based on discussions with the client about the design, the designer creates an estimated budget for the job. If the client approves the estimate, the designer will select the required contractors. Then the designer draws up an estimated schedule for each part of the job. A job is considered complete once each contractor has completed their work. At that point, the client will receive a detailed invoice.
Information the database should record:
Client contact information: name, phone, address
IDC designer information: name, phone
Contractor information: name, contact information, type of work done (plumbing, painting, flooring, etc.), work schedule (available or unavailable times).
Job information: client, designer, location, general description (e.g., remodel kitchen), list of tasks for the job (e.g., install new countertops, install new floors, paint walls, install window blinds), contractors for each task, estimated cost for each job, estimated dates that each job will be started and completed, actual cost for each job, actual start and completion dates for each job.
Inspection information: type of inspection required, date(s) of inspection (and reinspection, if required), date approval is received.
