Drilling is in progress in a carbonate reservoir at the depth of 2570m and soon will be ended at 2580m to leave the open hole section of 7 inch. The schematic diagram of the last casing and newly drilled section is depicted below. Assuming that bentonite is added to brine (Specific Gravity=1.2) to have the required mud weight so that drilling operation is safe at about 120 psi above the reservoir pressure of 5480 psi, and the total amount mud is double of the total well volume, determine: (density of fresh water is 62.4 lb/cuft, specific gravity of bentonite is 4.5 compared to water) a) How much mud will be disposed at the end of drilling (volume) b) The amount of bentonite and salt released to the environment if mud is disposed (dumped into a mud pit). c) The amount of fresh water used (volume) d) State any assumptions you made. Casing 9 5/8" Drill pipe 5" Open hole 7 12 inch 2500m 2570m Target depth=2580m
