During my first ninety days in healthcare, I walked into the breakroom, and there was a picture of me on the bulletin board. Before orientation, my manager asked me to give her a few facts about myself. Management wrote those facts next to my picture and my start date. Everyone introduced themselves and was very nice. My preceptors were extremely helpful. I felt comfortable asking questions when I was unsure. It motivated me to do an excellent job by their initial behavior. I wanted to prove to my manager and other employees that I was a good nurse and a good employee. It was nice to hear that I was doing well. The negative attitudes of a few demotivated me. There was an employee who was constantly bashing management and the company. It sometimes made me wonder if I had chosen a suitable workplace. I want to integrate a few strategies from the book into my leadership in the future. Not settling for a clone is a great strategy.
