During the 22nd Annual Judge's Conference in 2020, the Principal Judge Dr. Zeija indicated that case backlog had grown to 36,009 cases in 2020 indicating an increase by 88%. He further observed that the Land Division of High Court had a case backlog of 5,681 cases, Anti Corruption Court 61, and Commercial Court 1766, Criminal Division 1,276, Civil Division 1,364, Execution and Bailiffs 2,832, Family Division 2,705 while the International Crimes Division had the least number of backlogs standing at 33 cases.

a)In regards to the above statement, discuss the various mechanisms recognized under the law as a means of alternative dispute resolution in Uganda.

b)Despite the adoption of the various alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, case backlog in Uganda has remained very high. Explain why?
