During trial of turbine in the steam is found to enter turbine at 2.1 MPa , 260C with flow rate of 226 kg/s. Mechanical efficiency is 95% and turbine output is 100 MW. The exhaust pressure is 140 kPa and condensate temperature is 70C. Unfortunately the old boiler fails and is to be replaced by another boiler generating steam at 4.9 MPa 320C. This unit may drive an additional turbine with an internal efficiency of 90% which exhausts at 2.1 MPa. A part of exhaust is reheated to above trial conditions , including flow rate and remainder heats feed water to 205C. Determine (a) total plant output, (b) new total steam flow rate, kg/s(c) old turbine internal efficiency, (d) the overall thermal efficiency. 14.9 MW, 293 kg/s, 94.3%22.9%
