Each week we will discuss several different aspects of statistics of relevance to the assigned reading material. One of the areas of focus for this week is randomness. Why does it add value to the process of choosing a sample? Additionally why do managers use sampling when, by its very nature, it might tend to cast some doubt on the meaning of resultant findings? Some might say, for example, that since we have not selected all of the items in the population, we cannot be 100% certain that the characteristics of the sample are representative of the population as a whole.
