Efficient Use of Resources: The Master Schedule
A major part of operating a school under the direction of the school's administration is hiring the most qualified personnel and assigning these personnel to instructional and instructional support positions across the school.
It is the principal's responsibility to hire certified instructional and support staff. This task the school administrator needs to be familiar with the current Course Code Directory (CCD). The annual CCD is available online from fldoe.org. Below is a link to this document (If a more recent CCD is available, please select the newest edition).

The CCD describes the course coding system, with details about the specific codes and numbering system associated with the uniform courses for K-12 across Florida. Since courses are added or deleted at different points in time, the FEFP auditors would select the CCD for the year they are auditing a school. For this assignment, the student should select the most recent CCD listed.
The Narrative section outlines the state course code numbering system and provides tables of the different codes used in the course level documents. In addition, the student should also have available one (or more) of the grade level sections (Basic, ESE, Admin/Curr/Serv, or CTE). This will allow the student the opportunity to review both the specific courses available and have ready access to the specific codes used when defining certification areas or levels.
In this scenario, you, as the school administrator, have been requested to provide a course each teacher will instruct, providing the state course code number, course name, and one of the specific areas of certification required, and for which levels.
For example, if you have a teacher instructing high school English, you will look up the subject area in the 2323 CCD Basic - 9 - 12 document, then search for English (there will be a table of contents with link for the document). Under English, you will find the following for English 1
Grad Max
Course # Course Name Length Req Credit Certification
1001310* ENG 1 2/Y EN 1.0 ENGLISH 1 MG ENG C English 1
For this teacher, you would select the Course # and Course Name. The Certification required is English, 1 = Grades 6-12 or C = Grades 5 - 9. If the teacher is only certified in MG ENG C, the teacher would be out of field for students in grades 10 and up.
Every teacher who instructs students must be certified to teach a specific course. In some instances, a teacher is not certified to teach a specific course, but since the school cannot find a correctly certified candidate, a teacher may be assigned to teach the course as out-of-field. This will require the teacher to begin working on college coursework to become certified. Additionally, the teacher is limited to one year being out of field for that course.
For instructional support and administrative staff, positions are listed in Section 2 - Admin, Curricular, and Service Assignments.
In this scenario, your school's K-8 teachers and support staff are certified.
For your school, you are to select a course #, course name, certification, and level for each of the staff assigned to your school.
