E-Learning continues to grow in terms of percentage of training hours delivered as compared to onsite instructor-led training. In 2017, E-Learning reached parity with onsite training, with half of all training being delivered using virtual technologies. By 2019, E-Learning was 61% of all training. The COVID-19 pandemic has also accelerated the trend towards E-Learning. It is imperative that trainers and instructional designers understand the principles of effective E-Learning design, as the field continues to grow due to improved technology, better bandwidth, more user-friendly learning technologies, and the entrance of digital natives into the workplace.
