Element Superhero Comic Strip Background information: You have been hired by Elements of the Universe (a comic book publisher) to make a new superhero whose appearance, characteristics and powers are based on an element in the periodic table. The cartoon of your superhero must be based on the physical and chemical characteristics found in your research (ex: color, texture, physical appearance, etc) and highlight his or her superpowers. Directions: make a comic where the superhero has superpowers based on an element of your choice. You must research your element to find out the physical and chemical properties, its uses and applications, where it is found in nature, etc. These characteristics of the element must be included within the story. The superhero must be an original creation, so no Iron Man, Silver Surfer, or anything else that already exists! You can make your comic drawing by hand OR by use of various comic websites. Here are a couple websites to choose from: Make Beliefs Comix: http://www.makebeliefscomix.com/ ToonDoo Comic creator: http://www.toondoo.com/ Scratch (story and animation creator): http://scratch.mit.edu/ Go Animate: http://goanimate.com/ Powtoon: http://www.powtoon.com/ Bitstrips: http://bitstrips.com/create/comic/ Project Guidelines: - Show the hero in all of his/her glory. The atomic symbol or chemical formula should be displayed on his/her outfit and they should explain who they are. (example: Lead Woman to the rescue!) - Show the hero using his/her superpower (example: with her super high density, Lead Woman can crush her foe into the ground!) - Show Background Information on your superhero: o Explain how your hero came into being. Use the history of its discovery or where it is found (based on research) as inspiration. What is your hero's name? Any special costume? o Where the superpower got his/her abilities, that is, what about the element is responsible for the properties it has? The elements have many properties that you can make use of! (example: Made entirely out of Lead, which has an extraordinary amount of protons and neutrons in its nucleus, her density is much higher than other elements!) o Describe your hero's influence for good or evil on plants, animals or the environment (based on what the element used for). - Show the superhero's nemesis (Cyanide man, who threatens to poison the world!) - Be sure the storyline flows and makes sense. - Be sure to include source of information from research.
