I think the path of being an empathic leader begins with being an empathic employee. As an employee, the development of self-compassion is important to understand, and self-manage one's emotions. When an individual can regulate their emotions and understand their value systems, they are emotionally available to have empathy and concern for their peers in the work environment. At an employee level, there is the opportunity to develop their level of empathy through being mentored by leadership or another employee or be the one mentoring a new employee within the organization. This is a great way to develop strong work relationships.
