Values represent what is important to you, what you believe about good and evil. Values guide your behaviour and help you to decide what is "right" or "good". They underpin every decision you make as a leader, consciously or not. To prepare for this section of the PLP, do the following:

Self-Assessment Activity

Write. out the ten values/beliefs that are most important to you. Strike out the least important of these, one at a time, until you have five left - these should be the five values/beliefs that are most important to you.

Note:This list is what you should submit as your activity for PLP 8 (i.e., your self-assessment activity should be a list of your top 10 values/beliefs, with the less important ones crossed out, and the most important 5 'remaining' on your list).

Written Narrative Reflection

Write. a. narrative reflection in 2 - 3.5 .pages that includes the following:

  1. Describe how these personal values/beliefs have impacted your leadership in the past.
  2. Describe how these personal values/beliefs may impact your leadership in the future.
  3. Explain how these personal values/beliefs impact your interactions with other people and how you respond to certain situations/events (e.g., belief in equality, loyalty, honesty, etc.; value of money, power, participation, etc.).
  4. Identify opportunities for personal growth and any learning that you may have derived from this exercise of critical reflection. More specifically, discuss what you can do to better align your actions as a leader with your values moving forward, based on the information you've gained from the course material (e.g., wanting to implement a more egalitarian/authoritative/participative leadership approach in your life and several steps you want to take to do. this, etc.).
