Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that the flue gases leaving a power plant be emitted at certain ambient temperature ranges. The flue gas emitted from a certain power plant at 700C has the following composition by moles: carbon dioxide (25%), carbon monoxide (2%), nitrogen (48%), water vapor (23%) and nitrogen dioxide (2%). The flue gas needs to be cooled to 120C before it can be released into the environment. The flow rate of the flue gas is 100 mol/s. You are a chemical engineer tasked with cooling the flue gases by bringing it into indirect contact with cold water, which is available at a temperature of 25C. The heated water from the process should leave at 150C so that it can be used in another process unit. Using DWSIM open source package or other available licensed software packages like Aspen HYSYS, answer the following questions: a) Provide the flowchart of the process obtained from the software package. (Hint: Use an inter connected cooler and heater system to solve the above problem] (15 marks) b) What is the amount of heat (in KW) that needs to be removed from the flue gas, as obtained from the software package? (10 mark) c) What is the flow rate of cold water (in kg/s) needed for the above process? (15 mark) d) Perform a manual calculation and show whether the value obtained in (b) from the software package matches your calculated value. (15 + 5 = 20 marks)
