Erin Johansson is having nightmares. She can't sleep because nightmares keep her awake. She is worried about leaving home alone. Johansson is afraid Santa Claus might attack her again. This isn't a joke.
Johansson and her husband, Robert, took their 8-year-old son Victor to Edison Mall to get his picture taken with Santa Claus. Instead, Erin Johansson ended up in the middle of a fracas that resulted in Santa Claus and his assistant Elf going to jail.
The incident started when Johansson became hopping mad that Santa's photoshop closed 10 minutes early, instead of 8 p.m. as advertised. Johansson complained to the manager.
'It was something like you would see in a movie,' Robert Johansson said. 'The next thing you know my wife is ducking a punch by Santa Claus and is then pulled to the ground by her hair by Santa Claus's assistant. Then Santa Claus jumps on top and starts punching my wife in the back of the head.' Santa Claus's assistant Elf then dragged Erin into a small enclosure next to the photoshop and locked the door.
Arthur Methette, 22, and Crystal Methette, 25, husband and wife, were arrested by the Fort Myers Police Department. Arthur listed his occupation on the police report as 'Santa Claus.' Crystal was the manager of the temporary photoshop. Robert Johansson said seeing his 110-pound wife being pummeled by a 6-foot, 280-pound Santa Claus was terrifying. But then Santa Claus lost his head. Arthur ripped off his Santa Claus beard, hat, and bag of toys during the altercation, the Johanssons said. The sight of the unbearded Santa shocked the crowd.
The Methettes were employed by The Noerr Programs Inc., which supplies Santa Clauses and Elves to shopping malls, such as the Edison Mall, all across the country. The Methettes had no previous arrest records. Incredibly, just last week the Santa Claus and his assistant won a $500,000 Lotto prize.
