ethical guidelines and codes are part of regulated practice. Depending on your province, ethical codes may vary and it is important to be aware of guidelines for your specific area. The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario offers an overall Code of Ethics. Some regulatory bodies have very focused guidelines. For example, the Canadian Psychological Association has ethical guidelines that apply to the evolving and increasing practice of E-Services, which means providing services through electronic media (e.g., telephone, videoconferencing, e-mail, chat rooms). The guidelines apply to services that require a contractual relationship between a psychologist and client; they do not apply to the use of these media to provide general educational or resource information.
