Everyday Ethics The "Cover Letter" Jeanie knew it would happen one day. Her manager, Cynthia Bell, asked her to 40-second speech for delivery the following day. Cynthia planned to read the speech to a selection committee as part of a proposal. "It should be something like reading a cover letter," Cynthia explained. Fortunately, Jeanie didn't despairshe had learned to research in her Office Administration courseshe was sure she could come up with something! Next day, just before the selection committee meeting, Jeanie gave the speech to Cynthia for presentation. It read as follows: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Proposal Committee, I'm just preparing my impromptu remarks and fear that the length of this document defends it well against the risk of its being read. However, the proposal that I put before you today not only is revolutionary in design but also marks another improvement in the way we do things; an improvement to the processes that are not serving us well today. To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often. So, I suggest to you that this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

The speech that Jeanie wrote in this chapter's Everyday Ethics feature was given to you to correctly reference. Rewrite the speech giving proper credit, where appropriate, to Sir Winston Churchill.
