Example 5.2 The flow chart of a steady-state process to recover crystalline potassium chromate (K Croa) from the aqueous solution is shown below Water vapour Food 4.500 kg/h 33.3% KaCro 49.4% Evaporator K Cro Crystalliser & Filter Filter cake KaCro. (solid crystals) 36.4% KoCro. Filtrate 36.4% KaCro. Forty-five hundred kilograms per hour of 33.3% K Cro, solution is joined by a recycle stream of 36.4% K2Cro, solution, and the combined stream is fed into an evaporator. The concentrated stream leaving the evaporator contains 49.4% K2Cros. This stream is then fed into a crystallizer where it is cooled, causing crystals of K Cro4 to come out of the solution. The resulting solution and K Cro4 crystals are separated by a filter, dividing the product into 2 streams: the filter cake, which consists of K Cro, crystals and 36.4% K Crosolution; and the filtrate, which is the 36.4% K Cro, solution. The K2 Cro4 crystals account for 95% of the total mass of the filter cake. The filtrate is recycled to mix with the feed. Calculate (a) the rate of evaporation, or the rate of water evaporated at the evaporator, and (b) the recycle ratio [i.e. (mass flow rate of recycle)/(mass flow rate of fresh feed)] For our convenience, let K2Cro = K, Water = W
