excel project questions:

this template to calculate the estimated COELfor an advanced coal plant with CCS (30% carbon sequestration), a wind plant, an offshore wind plant, and a solar thermal plant using theCost and Performance Characteristics of New Generating Technologiesthat was used to generate the EIA'sAnnual Energy Outlook 2020 (AEO 2020). There is a tab below labeled for each of these electricity generating technologies. These tabs currently contain only cells for the input variables needed for the analysis. You must create the rest of the template for each technology. Part of the assignment is the design of your template. it should be visually appealing to its intended recipient (i.e., the boss, the client, etc.) In creating your COELtemplate, you will follow the procedures presented in Chapter 6 in the text (SS) and the Lesson 4 material in Canvas. For each technology, you will calculate the expected annual & lifetime energy output of the plant, the present value of lifetime capital costs (TLCKPV), the present value of lifetime operating & maintenance costs (TLOMCPV), the present value of lifetime fuel costs (TLFCPV), today's revenue per period (D0), and the levelized cost of electricity (COEL).

***Do not change the placement of the input cells on each of the template tabs***

For the fuel costs of the coal plant, we will take the same assumptions as in the text (SS) and the example in the Lesson 4 material in Canvas, with the exception of the per ton cost of bituminous coal. The most recent Annual Coal Report by the EIA (October 2019) reports coal data for 2018, and shows that the average price in the United States for bituminous coal was $59.43 per short-ton (table 31)

1) Obtain theCost and Performance Characteristics of New Generating Technologiesin theAnnual Energy Outlook 2020 (AEO 2020)from the EIA at:

http://www.eia.gov/

- Under 'Outlooks' on the bottom right, click on theAnnual Energy Outlooklink.- Under 'Documentation and Assumptions' on the bottom right, click on the 'Cost and Performance Characteristics' link.- Table 1 contains the most recently updated information that is contained in exhibit 6.2 in the text (SS).

2)Use the information in the 'Cost and Performance Characteristics of New Central Station Electricity Generating Technologies' to conduct your COELanalysis.

- For the nameplate capacity, use the 'Size (MW)' figure from Table 1

- For the utilization rate (aka, capacity factor %), the EIA reports the following:- Coal (30% CCS) = 85%- Wind Onshore= 40%- Wind Offshore = 44%- Solar Thermal = 29%- For the expected plant life:- Coal (30% CCS) = 40 yrs.- Wind = 25 yrs.- Wind Offshore = 20 yrs.- Solar Thermal = 30 yrs.- Discount Rate = 6.6%- Inflation Rate = 3.15%

*Note: exhibit 6.2 in the text (SS) shows a 'Project Contingency Factor' that is used to adjust the overnight cost. The project contingency factor in Table 1 from the EIA's AEO 2020 is included in the base cost.
