Executive Summary As part of its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, global financial services organisation, Principled Bank, is looking to roll-out on a local basis, a number of Green Tree Planting projects. As an assigned Project Manager, you are responsible for the local delivery of one of The Green Tree Planting Projects which aims to enhance the environmental sustainability and the visual appearance of a town or city of your choice. Your chosen town or city (or section of a city) should ideally have a population somewhere in the region of 20,000-50,000 people, but there is some flexibility with this. The project will involve planting a significant number of trees in pre-selected locations throughout the town or city and potentially in surrounding areas, and will contribute to cleaner air, improved biodiversity, and an overall greener environment. The project will be carried out in collaboration with local community organisations, government agencies, and volunteers. Key project objectives: To increase the town's tree coverage by planting a diverse range of native and suitable tree species To provide the ability to improve air quality by reducing pollution levels through the absorption of carbon dioxide and other pollutants by trees To enhance the town's visual appeal and create a more pleasant living environment for residents and visitors To promote biodiversity by providing habitats and food sources for wildlife, which in time will contribute to ecological balance To raise awareness about the importance of trees and environmental sustainability within the community Key project scope items: Tree Selection: Conduct research and collaborate with local experts to identify native tree species that are suitable for the town's climate, soil conditions, and maintenance requirements Site Assessment: Evaluate potential planting locations, considering factors such as available space, sunlight exposure, proximity to buildings and infrastructure, and the specific needs of selected tree species 2 Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with local community organisations, government agencies, residents, and volunteers to raise awareness, encourage participation, and solicit support for the project Tree Planting Activities: Organise tree planting events and recruit volunteers to assist with the planting process, ensuring proper techniques and care are followed Maintenance and Care: Develop a maintenance plan to ensure the survival and growth of planted trees, including watering, mulching, pruning, and monitoring for pests or diseases Community Education and Outreach: Conduct workshops, seminars, and educational campaigns to promote environmental awareness, tree care practices, and the benefits of a greener town Out of scope: The ongoing assessment and monitoring of tree growth and survival rates is out of scope for this project mandate and will be managed separately (after July 2024). Therefore, there is no need to include related assessment and monitoring activity in your assessment submissions. Project Resources For assignment purposes you should assume that you are the assigned project manager working for Principled Bank. You should assume that you have a dual reporting line, reporting into the Director of CSR at Principled Bank and into the national Head of Projects at Principled Bank. Furthermore, you can plan on the basis that you have one full time project assistant resource supporting you for the full duration of the project. Any additional resourcing needs should be identified through your own planning. Project Budget Fixed Project Budget: 200,000 or local equivalent of the same MBA Students will need to determine how to allocate this budget against the different project stages and the related primary activities. The stated budget must include salary related costs. Project Timescale Fixed Timescale: The Green Tree Planting Project is expected to commence in August 2023 and to be completed by the end of July 2024. The project must respect the stated budget and time constraints.
