Exercise 1: A research team is willing to assume that systolic blood pressures in a certain population of males are approximately normally distributed with a standard deviation of 16. A simple random sample of 64 males from the population had a mean systolic blood pressure reading of 133. At the .05 level of significance. Do these data provide sufficient evidence for us to conclude that the population mean is greater than 130?

H0 : 130

HA: > 130

Since 1.50 < 1.645 we accept Ho. These data not provide a sufficient evidence to conclude population mean is greater than 130.

Exercise 2:The hospital administrator mentioned that a randomly selected 64 patients and measured the time (in minutes) between when they checked in to the ER and the time, they were rst seen by a doctor. The average time is 150 minutes and the standard deviation is 42 minutes. She is getting grief from her supervisor on the basis that the wait times in the ER has increased greatly from last year's average of 135 minutes. However, she claims that the increase is probably just due to chance.

H0: = 135

HA: 135

Since 2.86 > 1.645 we have enough evidence against H0, and we can reject H0. We can conclude that change in wait times is statistically significant. The average ER wait time has increased over the last year.
