Suppose that we are interested in the factors that influence whether a patient experiences serious adverse events (SAEs) after receiving two treatments. The outcome variable is grade 3 or higher SAEs based on NCICTCAE version 5.0. Physicians will record whether a patient experience SAEs and corresponding grades within 3 months after the end of treatment. If a patients has multiple SAEs and there is at least one SAE with grade 3 or higher, then SAE status is 'yes'. Otherwise SAE status is 'no'. The independent variables of interest are type of treatment, tumor stage, age at diagnosis, gender, performance status, race/ethnicity, and socio-economic variable.
