Exercise #2 A ship of length between perpendiculars L 165.00 m arrives without list in a port in sea water of density d1.025. Its aft and bow drafts are respectively TAR-8.35 m; TAY 5.70 m. The initial transverse metacentric distance is 1.20 m and the stability losses due to free surface are negligible. 1. Calculate the displacement of the ship: a) Using Exclusively Appendix 2 of the problem. b) Using Exclusively Annex I of the problem. Comment on the results. For the remainder of the problem, we will adopt the results obtained using Appendix 2. 2. The ship has two identical seawater ballast tanks (d 1.025) having the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped whose centers of volume are located symmetrically at a distance of 6.00 m from the longitudinal plane of the ship. Dimensions of a ballast: length 12.00 m, width = 6.00 m, height - 2.00 m. The ballast situation when the ship arrives in port is as follows: port side ballast completely full; starboard ballast completely empty. Calculate the list that would be taken by the ship in the following cases: a) All water from the port side ballast tank is transferred to the starboard ballast tank. b) Half of the contents of the port side ballast are transferred to the starboard ballast: * by closing the transom after the transfer; * by keeping this crossbar open after the transfer. 3. The difference in drafts being considered excessive, we wish to reduce it to +1.00 m. To do this, we transfer sea water (d = 1.025) between the front peak and the rear peak whose volume centers are 145.00 m apart. Determine the direction of transfer and the weight of water to transfer.
