This project can be done in a group. All group members must contribute, and the part they contributed must be identied. All group members must be indicated on the cover page with their student number and name. All students must submit their own copy of the project from their own account. The past year has been a rapid expansion of distribution to consumers by companies that formerly only distributed goods to other businesses. Running a distribution centre aimed at fulfilling consumer orders is very different from one that is part of a business-to-business supply chain. (One of the reasons Amazoncom is as dominant as it is is because they mastered this years before their major competitors.) What you need to do is figure out how to redesign your distribution centre and its processes to fulfil consumer orders quickly.. Some items you might include are: - Do you ship each item separately or do you wait until all the items can go in one shipment? (Why?) - Do you need to lay out the location of goods differently to speed up the picking time? (Why?) - How does using couriers (e.g. Fed Ex, Purolator, UPS, etc.) and the post office cause changes from using trucking services as in B-2-B? - What can be done to keep the cost of shipping down while being a "prompt shipper" to satisfy consumers? - Are there items you can't offer because shipping will cause you to operate at a loss
