However, they placed a two-foot chicken wire fence around the pool with an unlocked gate, though the Southerns had a third-party contractor put in the fence, and it was supposed to lock. One evening while the Southerns were away from home, the neighbors' son, Jackson Thompson, four years old, wandered into the Southerns' yard, fell in the pool, and drowned.
