Finding a balance between "me" and "we" in a team setting is important for making it a good place to work together. In an article by Neck et al. (2017) it says in order for one to reach their potential as a team member you have to work with your team, not against it. Even though each person's goals and efforts are important, they must be in line with the team's overall goals. Individual accountability is a key part of this balance because everyone on the team needs to own up to their duties and capacities. Whether you are a team leader or someone in learning, personal leadership means putting in the work to improve yourself and the team's success as a whole.

People help build a mindset of accountability within the team by accepting responsibility for their own actions. Because they know how their actions can affect the team's general performance and outcomes, team members are more willing to work together and value each other to get the best possible outcome. They push everyone on the team to take care of their own life because they know how important it is for everyone to do well. Everybody needs to do their own job and also help and support other people on the team.
