Extra Credit Assignment: Jolly Roger inc.
The year is and you are the Quartermaster on the ship "The Pie Rat" and your voyages have been quite successful. From these voyages, the ship has amassed a wide variety of bounty from all around the Spanish Main. Though successful, it is time to disembark and all crew members are set to go their separate ways. Before that event can occur, the loot must be divided amongst all the crew members in the proper way. You have taken a tally of what has been "acquired" in the last couple months. The ship has two hundred and fifty loot, one thousand goods, seven hundred and fifty treasure, two thousand plunder, five hundred booty, and fifteenhundred spoils. Of course, each of these amounts have different values and some can't be equally divided between the crew. Fortunately, once you reach port, you have an "agent" that will purchase everything for coins silver How much is up to you to determine.
You have a fairly decent idea of exchange rates though obscure for this bounty: one treasure is equivalent to two booty; ten booty is equivalent to twentyfive plunder; twelve plunder is equivalent to twentyfour goods; six goods is equivalent to twelve spoils; and five spoils is equivalent to twentyfive loot. You also know that one loot is equivalent to one coin.
In addition, you also know there are bills to pay for the expenses laden upon the ship during these voyages. All of the amounts are based upon coins. The cost in coins include: ship repairs of fourteenthousand; cannon repairs of seven thousand seven hundred and fifty; cannon balls of six thousand; gun powder of three thousand eight hundred and thirty; wadding for cannons! of five hundred; swashbuckling tool usage includes knives, swords, pistols, hatchets, etc. of seven thousand nine hundred and fifty; eye patches, hooks, & peg legs of six hundred and seventyfive; Arrrr! Yarr! & YoHo Lesson costs of three thousand five hundred; Corsair Apparel of four thousand eight hundred and seventyfive; swashbuckling training of six thousand and two hundred; and Buccaneer Association Fees totaling one thousand six hundred and seventy.
These must be paid before any disbursement is granted to the crew.
As for the disbursements, each crew member is entitled to one share of the amount of coins collected, with a few crew member exceptions. The Captain is entitled to two shares for leadership and strategic decisions, the Quartermaster yourself is entitled to a share and one half for management of the resources, and the Carpenter and the Surgeon are each entitled to a share and one quarter for repairs to the ship and repairs to the crew. Excluding those individuals, there are also fifty crew members.
Your objective for this exercise comes in three parts:
Make a chart to determine the total amount of silver coins to be received from all the different types of bounties collected.
Make a simple SingleStep Income Statement outlining the total revenues and expenses for the ship and show whether there is a net income or a net lossYearended
Make a chart to show the distribution of the remaining silver coins to the crew, showing how many coins each individual will get.
Do this correctly, and the crew leaves happy and satisfied looking for new adventures!
Do it incorrectly though, and you will likely walk the plank...
