The asymmetry doesn't bolster the trial's integrity or its sense of fairness. Mr. Cohen is a famous figure with cable-TV bookers on speed dial. He isn't a random oncology nurse asked to do justice a favor by diving into this vortex. Judge Merchan has deferred discussion on the gag order to a hearing Tuesday, but it's hard to see why he shouldn't lift protection from Mr. Cohen. The other thing to keep in mind is that Mr. Trump might secretly hope for sanctions, if he can goad the judge into going nuclear in response to microaggressions. Yes, Mr. Trump mentioned the jury. Yet he posted a line that was already uttered on television to a social network that almost nobody reads. Let's not pretend this has poisoned the Manhattan jury pool that has been saturated for eight years with anti-Trump coverage. If the judge overreacts, Mr. Trump will go straight to the voters with another argument that he isn't getting impartial justice
