Now that you have completed the Unit 5 assessment, it is time to complete your final project. The final project is worth 10% of your final grade. Your final project will consist of a polished STSE Opinion piece based on one that you have already completed during this course. Throughout this course, you have encountered many issues dealing with science, technology, society, and the environment (STSE). You have read about these issues and researched them throughout your units of study. Many of them were summarized in the consolidation sections of the learning activities. In some of the assessments, you received feedback on your written summaries.

You will now consolidate your learnings to complete a more detailed analysis. You will create a piece of media that shares your opinion on an issue of your choice. You should ensure that this piece of media would be appropriate to use as a learning activity for an audience such as the general public (adults and youth over 16 years of age).In today's rapidly changing world, it is important to remain aware of the impacts science and technology have on our society and the environment. The analysis that you will complete is based on STSE issues. Your analysis and opinion on the issue you choose needs to be presented in a way that allows for someone not taking this course to understand the material. You can choose to share this information using a method of your choice. Choose one that you are comfortable with. Consider the following ideas:

  1. Design an info graphic (include pictures, statistics, quotations, etc.)
  2. Create a video (no more than five minutes in length)
  3. Record an audio file (no more than 5-10 minutes in length; similar to a podcast or radio show)
  4. Write a two-page report

Points that need to be addressed in your analysis and opinion:

  1. What is the science, technology, society, and environment (STSE) issue?
  2. What are the physics concepts involved in this issue? How do they connect to the content of this course?
  3. What are the impacts on the local community, Canada, and the global community?
  4. What are the multiple viewpoints/perspectives that exist on this issue? Be sure to include which stakeholders are involved and what their viewpoints are. Often, there are multiple stakeholders involved. Be sure to include all the perspectives.
  5. What is your position on this issue? In other words, make a decision of where you stand on this issue, and explain why you have taken it. You may use the first person in this section, as you are writing about your perspectives on the issue. Explain the context of your decision, and make connections to your own life.
