As the US struggles with mental health crises, many adults are worried about how drug abuse and addiction may affect their family institution. A significant portion of Americans have had close personal experience with the negative impacts of drug addiction. Besides, the research implicated that about two-thirds of the respondents reported that they were either affected or had a family member who was homeless as a result of drug addiction, had been hospitalized or even died. Others said that they were directly affected by mental health complications and family relationships. According to The National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Center for Injury Prevention, about thirty per cent of drug addicts receive medication for treating drug abuse disorders (McPhillips, 2023).

My assertion that drug abuse poses one of the biggest social challenges in America is inevitable. Through the aid of my sources, I would unravel the commonly abused drugs and the prevalence of abuse, pointing to the extent of addiction in family institution settings, especially in the 21st Century. Besides, my sources would reveal the rate statistics of homelessness in the United States regarding drug abuse to justify the social challenges of homelessness. Similarly, my sources would show the statistics of mortality emanating from drug abuse. Lastly, my sources would dig into the prevalence of mental health from drug abuse, which threatens societal well-being regarding social behavior
