1. Provide a link to the specific lesson/unit plan with assessment. Is it a restricted or extended performance assessment?
2. Evaluate the target alignment--The task should provide evidence of the learning target(s)/performance outcomes. This is known ascontent validity. Does it accurately measure what it's supposed to measure?
3. What is the focus of the assessment: procedure, product, or both? Explain.
4. Evaluate the authenticity/realism of the assessment. How authentic/realistic is the task, and why do you think that level of realism was chosen?
5. Evaluate the performance situation. This closely reflects the degree of realism. Performance situations are described.
6. Evaluate the amount of student choice allowed in the assessment. Do students have any choice in what to perform/produce, and if so, are all choices equivalent in how they would measure the outcomes?
7. Evaluate the level of scaffolding. The information in the task should be sufficient to let students know what they are to do without giving so much information that the task will no longer measure level of mastery of the intended learning target/outcome. The task should point the way to success without doing the thinking for the student.
8. Evaluate the availability of resources and materials to be used. All resources and materials needed to perform the task should be available for students. Would most students in most schools have access to the needed resources and materials? Explain.
9. What method of observing, recording, and scoring has been selected and created? Do you think it's an effective way to evaluate the performance outcomes?
10. If the performance assessment is one of the ones detailed in use the checklist that goes with that type of assessment:
- Student projects
- General performance assessments
11. If you were to adapt this assessment tool, what would you change and why? Explain.
