Vm=m+t1tm+2(dxm)+3(ycm) i.e. VA=A+1tA+2(dxA)+3(ycA)VT=T+1tT+2(dxT)+3(ycT) where: Vm= the utility of mode m,m=A for Auto, m=T for Transit tm= in-vehicle time (minutes) xm= out-of-vehicle time (minutes) d= distance (miles) cm= out-of-pocket costs (cents) (e.g. fare for transit, or parking etc for auto). y= annual income (dollars) - 300 commuters do not have access to transit but they have automobile available. - 200 commuters do not own an automobile but have access to transit. - The remaining 1500 commuters have out-of-vehicle time for auto and transit equal to 5 and 10 minutes respectively, and out-of-pocket cost equal to 100 cents and 50 cents for Auto and Transit respectively. The remaining characteristics are assigned according to the following table, which indicates the number of commuters in each category: :or example, 350 commuters have income $10,000 and their travel time by Auto is 25min, by Transit 20min, and the distance to their destination is 15 miles.
