FINDING CREDIBLE SOURCES

• A scholarly journal article: on social welfare and communication
• a news source (a news report or an opinion editorial): social welfare and communication
• a book (either scholarly or non-scholarly).: onsocial welfare and communication

1) Explain your topic and search process. Please answer:What topic did you initially select, and how did you search for it in the library catalogue? Please include the keywords and Boolean search strategies you used. What were your results? What is your narrowed topic? How did you search for the narrowed topic? Once again, detail the search terms you used. What filters did you use to find the three sources required in the assignment (e.g., the journal article, news article, and book)?

2) Confirming types of sources:Introduce your reader to the three sources you've selected. Explain how you dug into each source's publishing information, in order to confirm the type of sources. Use the tips provided in Prof Hiltz's week two lecture and library walkthrough video for this section. Which three sources did you select? Who are the authors and what are the titles of the published work?How did you confirm the scholarly journal article you selected was indeed scholarly and from an academic journal? How did you confirm that the news article is from a news organization? How did you confirm the book source was indeed a book?

3) Do you think the news source you selected is credible? Why or why not, given specific evidence from the article? Apply all elements of the 'CRAAP Test' criteria to your news source only. Please clearly state whether you consider it a credible or not credible source by referring to evidence from the news article. This helps show your argument about whether the source is credible. Please use and cite the 'CRAAP test' document assigned in week two of the course.
