Finding out what students know is huge. That being said, the types of activities and/or assessments used for students can make or break their performance in your class. For example, some students are not good test takers but they can give you any detail you ever wanted to know if you allow them to make a poster. As we discussed before, there may be other limitations affecting student performance aside from content knowledge. This could very well be their reading ability, athletic ability, hand-eye coordination, a developmental delay, etc.. Because they cannot comprehend the question on the test document, they may know the answer and still fail the test. They might know proper technique for a PE skill, yet be unable to perform said skill themselves. Through accommodating these students through different forms of assessment, they can definitely thrive in your class. On the other hand, a failure to accommodate could be detrimental to student development in many ways (i.e. social, emotional, mental, physical, etc.)Thoughts?
