(See Hotels Fanshawe - Company Profile. docx for more detail.) Project Synopsis: Centralized Reporting System Development and Improvement of Existing Systems To meet the demands of the tourism and hospitality industry, Hotels Fanshawe needs a modern, convenient, efficient and cost-effective BI (Business Intelligence) tool which is well-structured and orderly with a clear end-user interface. This BI tool would be used to create an Executive Information System (EIS). This system would be used for collecting, processing and presenting information in a unified form to head office staff, hotel management and employees to offer a fast and efficient way to obtain management information. The developed BI system has to be a powerful and flexible tool for multi-functional analysis. The collection, storage and processing of analytical data must be reduced to a single system. Managers should have access to all reports in a single place. Custom reports should be easy to create and share. In addition, the new analytical business system must allow planned statistical reports (weekly, monthly, etc.), but also provide brief analytical information at any time when it might be necessary for a manager. The request is to have you project manage the: Creation or purchase of custom software to collect/capture and store data/information from all the existing Hotels and Resorts that are parts of the Hotels Fanshawe organization. . Purchase of a COTS (Commercial-off-the-shelf) software reporting system such as COGNOS to provide the BI reporting capability. Purchase of centralized servers to host the BI system. The collection of information to determine if the organization should upgrade its existing network infrastructure. The installation of the hardware and new software. . . The training of existing staff. The identification and procurement of any new staff resources. The allocated Budget for this project is $1M Canadian and is to be funded wholly by Hotels Fanshawe using their existing cash reserves. The entire project must be complete and in production in 12 weeks (May 23#= - August 12"). Glossary (BI) Business Intelligence System: Reporting Software for a company (EIS) Executive Information System: a specific type of BI that combines a system for collecting, processing and presenting information in a unified form to employees and hotel management COTS: Commercial off-the-shelf, not custom created for a specific company COGNOS: One type of Bl software system Sponsor: You can use your professor as the sponsorHOTELS FANSHAWE Company Prots Hotels Fanshawe's tradition of service excellence started with the opening of the Hotel Fanshawe Xenon, London, Ontario in 197'1. At each hotel site all customer and nancial data is stored on local servers and utilizing different software platforms based on each hotel's local data and reporting requirements. Hotel Fanshawe requires collection and retention of large volumes of internal and customer data, including credit card numbers and other personally identiable information of customers in various information systems maintained andi'or by contracted third parties. These thirdparty contractors provide services in areas such as human resources outsourcing, website hosting, and various forms of electronic communications. Hotels Fanshawe and third-party contractors also maintain personally identiable information about employees. The integrity and protection of customer, employee, and company data is critical. Hotels Fanshawe is predominantiy a manager of hotel properties. The company is experienced and has experienced nancial strength however in order to fund capital projects including new hotel purchasesfdevelopment as well as improving existing hotels, they must periodically obtain external funding. The availability of funds for new investments and improvements depends on capital markets and liquidity factors, over which they have little control. Industry/Environment Profile The hotel industry is highly competitive with markets that contain many competitors. Each of our hotels competes for customers with major hotel chains in national and international venues. Competitors include chains such as Marriott Hotels, Hilton Hotels, Temple Hotels, Hyatt Hotels and Millennium Hotels as well as new competitors such as AirBnB. Economic conditions and uncertainty can also impact our financial results and growth. Weakness or disruption of economic conditions in countries in which we operate, currency values or governmental actions related to deficit, budget or unemployment are all likely to impact our revenues and access to capital. Foreign currency exchange rate fluctuations will grow as the relative contribution of our non-North American operations increases. Risks relating to natural or man-made disasters, contagious disease, terrorist activity, and war could reduce the demand for lodging and adversely affect revenues. The hotel industry depends on the quality and reputation of a brand, and any deterioration in the quality or reputation of these brands could have an adverse impact on market share, reputation and ultimately revenues. The quality and reputation of brand is also affected by use of technology and ability to maintain the security and integrity of private customer data. Failure to maintain the integrity of and protect internal or customer data could result in faulty business decisions, operational inefficiencies, and damage reputation and/or subject a hotel chain to fines or lawsuits. The information, security, and privacy requirements imposed by governmental regulation and the requirements of the payment card industry are also increasingly demanding, in both the United States and other jurisdictions where Hotels Fanshawe operates
