Follow the instructions below to complete calculations and create visual
representations of data within the Heart Health Excel file. You will use that information
to write a report that includes your thoughts, calculations, and graphs that you create.
Within your report, you will insert charts and tables from your Excel file where
appropriate to support your conclusions.
Part 1: Data Analysis
1. Download, save, and open the Excel data file. When completing your analysis,
follow these guidelines:
Numeric-continuous variables should be represented using histograms.
Numeric-discrete variables should be represented with a bar chart on the
count or relative frequency.
Categorical variables should be represented with a bar chart on the count
or relative frequency.
Numeric variables, both continuous and discrete, can use box and
whisker plot to display the five number summary, distribution, and
outliers.
Every chart should always have labels on each axis and should have a
chart title that clearly explains to the audience what the chart is
representing.
Description of Data Set
2. Determine whether each variable in the Heart Health Excel file is numericdiscrete, numeric-continuous, or categorical.
3. For numeric variables, create a table displaying the mean, standard deviation,
and five-number summary. 4. For categorical variables, create a table displaying the count and relative
frequency for each outcome.
Visual Representation of Data - Platelets
5. Create the appropriate type of chart to display the platelets variable.
Visual Representation of Data - Diabetes
6. Create the appropriate type of chart to display the relative frequency of the
diabetes variable.
On your chart, display labels for each outcome that show the exact
relative frequency.
Visual Representation of Data - Quantity of Visits to Hospital
7. Create the appropriate type of chart to display the quantity of visits to hospital
variable.
Visual Representation of Data - Creatine Phosphokinase
8. Create the appropriate type of chart to display potential outliers for the creatine
phosphokinase variable.
Create the corresponding histogram for the creatine phosphokinase
variable.
Comparison of Death Occurrence and High Blood Pressure Occurrence
9. Create two charts to show 1) the number of individuals who died along with the
number who had high blood pressure and 2) the overall percentage of
individuals with high blood pressure from the entire sample. These are meant to
help answer the questions: What percentage of the individuals who died also
had high blood pressure? How does this percentage compare to the overall
percentage of individuals with high blood pressure from the entire sample?
10.Create two charts to show 1) the number of individuals who had blood pressure
who also died and 2) the overall percentage of individuals who died from the
entire sample. These are meant to help answer the questions: What percentage
of the individuals who had high blood pressure also died? How does this
percentage compare to the overall percentage of individuals who died from the
entire sample?
Random Sample and Smoker Comparison
11.Create a random sample of ten patients by using the rand() function. Follow-Up Question
12.What other question could you ask about this data? Create a chart to attempt to
provide insight toward answering this question. Patient id age (years) quantity of prior hospital visits creatine phosphokinase diabetes high blood pressure platelets sex smoking death event For the variables diabetes, smoking, death event and high blood pressure: 0=YES, 1=NO. For the variable sex: 0=Male, 1=Female.
