• For decades, the Taylor School has been providing elementary education in the sector where it's located. While other institutions in the area have faced difficulties, the school has maintained a good enrollment level, unlike others that have experienced a decrease in their student numbers.

  In recent years, the sector has experienced significant development in terms of new housing construction. Within a radius of ten miles from the school, there are at least six new high-rise buildings with numerous apartments. According to information provided by the county, it is expected that these housing units will be occupied in a year's time. Despite being satisfied with the school, parents consistently complain that there are no places in the vicinity where children can engage in other extracurricular activities. They would like their children to further develop their musical, athletic, and literary talents.

  Parents observe that other schools offer a variety of workshops, or there are specialized schools where children attend classes related to art, sports, or languages. However, such opportunities are not available at Taylor School. The school has an enrollment of six hundred students and while it might not be among the top-performing schools in the educational region, it also doesn't fall into the category of those with low results.

  Teachers are content at the school, adhering to their schedules, and their absenteeism rate is within the average for the educational region. They believe that the school is well-organized, maintaining good discipline, with everyone effectively carrying out their roles. Teachers attribute this sense of order to the principals they have had. All of them have been characterized by an autocratic style, a strong presence, and control over all school processes, highly hierarchical, with limited opportunities for significant involvement in planning and directing the school.

  In a way, this style has kept them distanced from the issues that concern most of the school system today, such as bullying, violence, emotional and sexual education for youth, and abuse, among others. While parents prefer that the school remain this way, students in grades six through eight have increased their demands for greater participation and for the school to open up to the community. This is because they feel disconnected from what's happening around them. A few months ago, the current principal announced his retirement, initiating a process to select a new official.

  Later on, teachers were informed about who would be filling the position. They were surprised by the new principal's style, known for how he managed other schools, which was quite different from what had prevailed at Taylor School. It was said that he didn't make decisions without consulting his close team, that there was greater autonomy in task performance, that parents and students participated in the school's management, and that teachers would have to assume additional responsibilities as they were included in resolving the school's problems, among other distinctive elements of his leadership style.

  Faced with his imminent entry into the school, several teachers expressed their dissatisfaction. They felt comfortable with the way the school had operated until then and were unwilling to dedicate even a minute more of their time to tasks they believed were not part of their duties.
