a. In order to estimate the proportion of ACME University students

who commute to school, a survey taker asked 1447 students near

the student union building whether they commute or live on

campus.

b. 360 potato plants in a field in Maine are randomly chosen. Only

12 showed signs of blight. Researchers want to use this

information to make an inference about the severity of the blight

problem for the US potato industry.

c. The ACME U. Student Government Association wanted to know

what percentage of students majored in a STEM discipline. They

surveyed 402 students going in and out of the art building.

d. 6 of 255 employees at ACME Industrial Inc. suffered an injury on

the job in the last year. The company wants to use this

information to make an inference about how many job related

injuries to expect next year.
