10:46 # .Ill 40% Part 4: Project Scope Management There are four exceptionally important tools used in scope management: The Business Case, the Project Charter, the Scope Statement; and the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). The Project Charter expands upon the Business Case. The Scope Statement expands upon the Project Charter; and the WBS expands upon the Scope Statement. The four documents should track seamlessly. If it's in the Scope Statement, for example, it MUST be in the WBS. If there are major changes required in one, then all need to be revised TO DO: Develop a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). Create it using the "deliverables- oriented collection of project components" orientation of the PMBOK Include appropriate management activities and milestones. Also include a few Capital Expenses (acquisition of servers might be a good example; there are others that you can invent for this requirement also). Enter them prefaced with the word "Capex" before their description (e.g.: "Capex - Servers.") Very Important! Be sure to base the WBS on Section 6.0 of the Business Case, the project charter, and the scope statement. Notes: Were you to do it over (and that is NOT a requirement), there is one concern that I have, and it relates specifically to the PART 4 (the WBS and the Scope Statement). This Charter appears to be principally written around the development of the website itself and its functioning. The "Project" is much more than that. It's about a total re-engineering and restructuring of how business will be done. Major elements of the project will be the changes in the supply chain, in warehousing, in marketing, in inventory management, probably in real estate, training, maintenance, etc. In point of fact since website development is not the firm's line of work, the "IT" part of it would probably be outsourced. So..in the development of the Scope of Work and the WBS, don't spend much time or space on website development. Of course, it's a part of the overall project, but make sure all the other elements are addressed in adequate detail. image.png image.png
